Routine
Routine for astrophotography. Useful when brain deteriorates with age.
- Check atronomical conditions, using e.g. Stellarium:
- astronomical night (Sun below 18° under horizon)
- no Moon (Moon below 1° under horizon)
- Check weather conditions, using local weather service:
- preferrably no clouds
- no haze
- Check positions of objects to observe, using e.g. Stellarium.
- Check camera batteries charge.
- Check route and transportation to observation location.
- Pack equipment:
- camera (Canon EOS 90D, sensor APS-C 22.3x14.9 mm)
- lenses (Canon Zoom Lens EF-S 18-135 mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS USM)
- remote switch (Canon Remote Switch RS-60E3)
- tripod (Stitz Tripod 3-SEC. VT-33G)
- cell phone with GPS (iPhone SE(2), 2020)
- SQM-L light meter (from Unihedron via Robtics.nl)
- fingerless gloves
- Go to observation location.
- Dress in fingerless gloves.
- Find, GPS locate and note place for tripod (use phone).
- Note time (use phone).
- Measure and note (use phone) light (use SQM-L), 6 times 60 s apart, discard first.
- Setup camera with lens, tripod and remote switch.
- Photograph and if needed note (use phone) objects.
- Note time (use phone) when done.
- Pack equipment.
- Undress fingerless gloves.
- Go home.
- Unpack equipment.
- Connect camera to computer (via WiFi or cable) and transfer photos (use EOS Utility 3).
- Add content name to export folder name.
- Scale (suffix B) or crop (suffix C) photos for publication to 1500x1000 px, and to 360x240 px previews (suffix D).
- Transfer processed photo versions (B, C, D) to "photo" mirror folder.
- Add photos to "photo" mirror folder index page.
- Update log on "photo" mirror folder index page.
- Transfer updates to server (use SCP).
